Resident Evil 4 for Wii. Half of game’s sales? November 1, 2007

Resident Evil 4 is the only game originally released for the Gamecube and then ported to the Wii. As a Gamecube title it was also one of the most visibly popular games for the platform.
Over 300,000 copies of RE4: Wii Edition were sold in August, according to NPD Group, bringing the total to just over one million units. That accounts for about half of all sales of the game across the four platforms for which it has been released - Playstation 2, PC, Gamecube, Wii.
The milestone comes just as another, more controversial horror game has just been released for the Wii. Manhunt 2 was released this past week. The game is so violent that it originally received an “Adults Only” rating from the ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board), the first game ever to receive that rating solely for graphic violence. A “toned down” version passed by with an “M” rating, which is what users will get on the Wii.
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is available for a retail price of only around $30.

I wonder if this announcement will make the Konami developer think twice about his recent comments re: Silent Hill. I hope so, and I also hope this might make Capco reconsider the possibility of a ‘proper’ RE game on Wii rather than just Umbrella Chronicles…
