Portal for Wii?

The image “http://www.xbox360gamers-preview.com/images/half-life-2-portal.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

There are several reportstalking about the possibility of a Wii version of the innovative “FPS puzzle” title Portal, a game based on the Source Engine and is currently available for the Xbox 360 and PC in The Orange Box collection of Valve titles. The reports suggest that Valve is trying to push for the development of the game for the Wii. Could we see Portal on the Wii? I would say it is possible and would work well on Wii. Valve has been interested in the Wii since the Wii controller was first revealed, and the team should be able to port the Source Engine over to the Wii. Let’s hope this rumour comes true.

If you dont know what Portal is, check out youtube.

  • skunkchop

    I played a user-made version of Portal, there’s one up on mofunzone.com .
The puzzles were very original. If that’s what the actual game is like, I just might buy it.

Nice, I have this as part of The Orange Box. The most innovative, most original FPS title I’ve seen for a while. I’d like to see some extras or special modes for the Wii edition.

On the other hand, I think Team Fortress 2 would be a nice choice to bring over too. The Orange Box wins! \:D/

If they do, it had better be LONGER!

  • http://abxy.org/u/noodle93 Noodle_93

If they do make it, it should include a level editor.

Portal is the only thing I want from Orange Box, so I would be very, very happy if this actually happened.

  • pags

my only firsthand experience with portal so far is a flash version on addictinggames.com, which is absolutely awesome and tough. i’m really hoping valve realizes the full potential here and goes for it

  • 3 games

    SWEET…
Please add a level editor and MULTIPLAYER WITH LEVEL EDITING FEATURES…

    Also add Team Fortress 2 as well since that game rules :-}

  • JT

I would love to this game on the Wii. With the way the wii works this should be no problem at all. I think it’s a smart decision.

  • blabla

i say they take the whole orange box and put it on the will along with day of defeat and counter strike source

  • Harry

Please for the love of god bring out this game…PLEASE!!!

  • Canoe

I would pay top dollar if this came out for the Wii!!!!!

  • wii = fail

What would you nintentards know about valve, anyway? They make real games for real gaming platforms, unlike nintendho, which has abandoned its roots and sold out to all you jerkoffs who think waggling your little sticks up and down while you stare at last-century, low-def crap graphics qualifies you as gamers.

Go play wii-sports on your little white toy box some more, then promptly go to hell.

Oh, and there’s no freaking way the wii would ever be capable of running the source engine. At the risk of redundancy, see above where I point out that the wii is only capable of low-def crap graphics.

  • Tom

    Hey jackass above;

Perhaps you missed the memo. Games are about the gameplay, not the graphics. Good gameplay can save bad graphics, but good graphics can’t save a game that just sucks. Someday you’ll wake up and realize that Sony and Microsoft have sunk millions into processors that are gaming’s ‘dumb blondes,’ able to make things look pretty without having any innovation or creativity. Halo 3, as visually spectacular as it is, for example, is still an FPS. Need for Speed XXVIII or whatever they’re up to is still a racing game. Some of us are interested in new TYPES of games instead of gussied-up versions of the same old, same old.

  • http://rhinocrisy.org/ saurabh

As a non-Wii owner, I apologize for the idiot in #13. Not all of us hate you! Some of us still realize that without Nintendo, video games as we know them would not exist, and the Wii is an ample demonstration of their ability to keep innovating while the rest of the industry stagnates and obsesses with mindless nonsense like “graphics”. As #14 said, gameplay is everything. Go back sometime and play Starfox for the super nintendo (the roms are easily available all over the Net). It still kicks ass. Yes, even though I can see the polygons.

  • http://rhinocrisy.org/ saurabh

Oh yeah, and to skunkchop – that Flash version is okay, but the real version is much, much better. Not only has it got gameplay and awesome puzzles, but Portal also has a stellar story and some of the best video-game writing in years. Natch, it’s Valve!

    So please…

    NO NO NO NO NO!!

oh and btw i agree with posts 14 and 15 about the THE JACKASS IN 13!

who thinks i have an anger management problem?

” sold out to all you jerkoffs who think waggling your little sticks up and down while you stare at last-century, low-def crap graphics qualifies you as gamers. ”

I have a Megadrive, SNES, GameBoy, PS, PS2, five laptops and two PC’s. I’ve got every available emulator for my PC/Laptops and have every ROM available for them. I’ve been gaming for the past 26 years and for 7 of those I lived in a coastal town where the main attraction was a multitude of arcades sporting pretty much every game you could think of…

As someone with such a wealth of gaming experience I feel I should point out that every single game I have ever played, apart from the V.R. systems I’ve used of course, is either about waggling little sticks around, pushing a mouse around and/or bashing buttons.

    …Did I mention, I own a Wii…

Please, on behalf of all TRUE gamers, shut the hell up and get back to “pwning n00bs” or whatever the hell it is you do when you’re not slagging off a perfectly good console..

    • Scottfamily0135

you’ve been gaming for 26 years? Think its time u need to get a new hobby and get LAID

  • Jerry

    To #20:

No one cares what you own or what you background; for all we know you are making that up for emphasis…the only thing good in that post is the last paragraph…which I completely agree with.

    To all:

You have to realize that Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and all other business’s (businesses?) are out to make money. Sony could not care less what people think about it..they are not solely gaming, perhaps only 1/8 of their entire business is gaming. That section has it’s own profits (mainly lack of profits) – which, if low, barely effects the rest of the company. They do not care about whether we enjoy playing their games, or about its rep, just about making money; and as long as the 30% of the gaming population supports them; they are making money.

    Sony sucks…

I’ve got Portal and it’s definitely one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. The concept is the most original thing the gaming market has seen in quite a while, and it’s executed perfectly.

A Wii remake would be perfect.

  • Matt

You’d pay $50 for a 3 hour game? I think Portal sounds quite interesting and fun, but that would be a huge waste when you could get the Orange Box for PC or Xbox.

  • Carl Vitullo

and that’s why it would be $20, same as for PC. or, they would make the whole orange box for it, which would be ridiculously easy once they port the engine. the only difference between all source games are the maps, as proved by http://www.primotechnology.com/2007/10/17/half-life-2-portal/

  • poorsod

Personally I’m not sure how well it will translate to Wii, the few first-person games that have made the jump to the waggle-zapper have had pretty dire control systems.
Also, it DOES include a level editor; go into Steam, find ‘tools’ and download the free Source SDK.

I was about to make a legitimate reply to this article when I noticed the abundance of Naruto images. Then I started to look more closely at the comments and then everything became clear to me. This website is completely retarded.

    Seriously, Naruto? Ha! Naruto! Hahahahahaha…

    >>18 Games on consoles are computer games too, you fool.

In any case, Valve can’t even port things to a relatively normal platform like Mac or Linux. If they can’t manage that, I doubt they will instantly become able to port to Wii.

I really hope it comes on Wii ;D

  • dannyzoo96

There is no reason it can’t be ported to wii, some guy managed to port portal to iphone, it can’t be that hard Valve to edit the controls! but i doubt that it will have a level editor as the wii won’t be capable like PC’s, also if Valve or some other guy ports it to wii it should have lots of cheats like the PC version but pressing buttons on the X360 version of Orange Box.

Anyway heres a cheat for the X360 Orange Box Portal: press (during gameplay) Y,A,B,A,B,Y,Y,A,LEFT,RIGHT for portal placement anywhere for those who don’t know the cheat!

I was just about to walk into bestbuy and get a Wii console when…I saw the announcement of Portal 2. I refuse to buy a Wii now until Portal 2 is announced for it. I and my whole family loved Portal 1.

  • Noidness

If it does come out for the Wii, I would want to get it, but i wonder what my family would think of me playing a game like that. It`s not the type of game that i usually play.

  • Chloe

I hope they do create a Portal game for the Wii, I had such fun playing it before my xBox was sold!

it would be easy for a portal game on wii cause you could have C and B as your portals z to pick up stuff a to jump control stick to move 1 and 2 could be like secondary portal buttons for a different option + would be pause and that would be the controls for portal on wii

  • Jtpruz

it would suck on wii, every shooting game i’ve played on the wii, the character walks around for you and you just shoot. That wouldn’t be any fun to me, and the nunchuck would just turn, theres no second way to turn and look at things like on the ps3 and xbox controller, i would like to see it on the wii like everyone else but there’s still some concerns.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aleksander-Joseph-Fleischer/100001189785348 Aleksander Joseph Fleischer

I would actually expect aiming and movement controls similar to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Google it), with B to shoot a blue portal, Z to shoot a red portal, A to jump, and C to pick something up.

    • Scottfamily0135

then apparently u haven’t been playing the right shooter games, COD isn’t on rail guidance (where the character walks for you) nor is Medal of honor, The conduit, and many others besides those.

    • Guest

yh there is you could use the d-pad on the wiimote to move and the nunchuk to turn

  • Livin4Jesus

@ Jtpruz: You know, they could use the Nunchuck to change the view, and you can point with the Wii remote to aim…
