Real Quick Review: Jam Sessions DS

Jam Sessions DS is a game that trys something new for the Nintendo DS and succeeds. This game uses chords and chords only, so you wont be pulling off any solo’s on it any time soon. The controls are really easy to get into, you strum the touch screen to strum the guitar, and the different positions you hold down on the numpad creates the sound of a different chord. As this is a game where you create music there is no soundtrack. There are a few songs in the game, I believe that there are 16 in total, and it gives you the the chords and lyrics to play the song but nothing else. That means you can toss up any ol’ strum pattern that you like and play the song the way you want it played or think sounds good. But, deep down in the core of the game, there is no challenge or anything like that what so ever, it is basically chords and sheet music to use the chords with. Even with that, I think the game is still worth a try.

So all in all, The game is great and is quite a bit of fun to create your little chord progressions that sound really good. As this is a DS game, it is really a pick up and play type of game, no knowledge of guitar is needed to play this game. If you are looking for a super realistic game based on the guitar then this is not for you. If you are into a really simple yet fun game based on the guitar, then go ahead and purchase this. If you aren’t, then I say give it a try before you buy it to see if it is your type of game.

No, this game is boring and horrible.

If they had backing music and stuff that you could play and mabye get points for accuracy and skill then it’d be good. but its just a noisy guitar simulator with sheet music on the top screen, nothing more.

This game is pretty cool to play with, and play the songs and stuff, but you can’t really think of it as a game, cuz there’s not really points are anything, it’s more of a toy to play with.

I especially like in the tutorial area there’s an “Ear Trainer” that you can play to train yourself to recognize notes and chords by ear, which is super cool for any kind of musician

definitely something cool to play with, especially for a little portable simulator you can carry around with you and write little ditties, and even record them for later playback
