Metroid Prime 3 Corruption Metroid Prime 3 sells 400,000 copies in first week?

According to Gamasutra.com, new data available from Amazon.com reveals that Metroid Prime 3 may have sold 400,000 copies in its first week of release(Awesome!), and the game has only been released in North America.

    MJ:
So, according to you, Metroid Prime 3 will not sell more than 100,000 more games here in the U.S. in the next three months?

    kevbo:
So, according to YOU, Metroid Prime 3 will not sell more than 600,000 more games ANYWHERE in the next three months?

    To all nay-sayers:
Let me pull out my handy dandy logic sheet for you guys. Metroid Prime 3 took ONE WEEK while being released only in America to sell 400,000 copies. Metroid Prime 2 took TWO MONTHS while being released in America, Europe, and Australia to sell 490,000 copies.

At this speed of sales (50,000+ copies a day), Metroid Prime 3 will outsell Metroid Prime 2's two month total in nine days.

Here's another fun little number. Metroid Prime sold 1.5 million copies in America over its lifetime. Metroid Prime 3 is already 1/3rd of the way to matching that number in ONE WEEK.

A more recent example of number fun. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess took three months to sell one million copies here in North America. Metroid Prime 3 is almost half way there... in one week.

Finally, the big one. Halo was the fastest game to sell one million copies on the last batch of consoles. This was with six months in America and and one month in Europe and Australia. Metroid Prime 3 is half way there IN ONE WEEK!

So, with that said, here's my prediction considering the fact that these games admittedly don't sell amazingly well in Japan: 3 million. Easy. If sales plummet to 25% of what they are now this week and continue at that sales rate for the rest of the year (even during Christmas season when this game will get SNAPPED UP) and the European release does NOTHING to add to the sale rate of the game whatsoever, this game will hit 2 million by year's end. That is an amazingly pessimistic view with a 75% sales drop while ignoring an intercontinental release and the biggest shopping season and I still get 2 million!

Summary for lazy people who can't read:
Metroid Prime 3 is one of the fastest selling games ever. Even with a horribly pessimistic view, it will sell 2 million by year's end. Bank on it!

if you include the other regions... around a million
  • MJ
Games often only sell for about the first month of release, so probably half a million in the US.
