If I remember correctly (and Wikipedia isn't being a lying buzzard), Retro canceled all their earlier games BECAUSE they were given the job to work on the Prime series and wanted to free up as much of their resources as possible. If they would not have been chosen by Nintendo, they most likely would have continued work on whatever they were doing.

Now, the games that would have come out were: Car Combat, NFL Retro Football, Action-Adventure (unnamed game), and a game called Raven Blade. Supposedly, Nintendo chose Retro because Action-Adventure was going to have a female character. Of those, only Raven Blade really seemed big and it looked like a generic hack-and-slash with some fun elements.

So, in the end, I don't think Retro would be nearly as big as it is if it wasn't for Metroid Prime. Perhaps notable but not the name-brand they are now.

None. That's what I'm saying, everything before Prime was cancelled.
Similar to Bungie which was a second rate company before Halo (I still believe it is). The game sjust weren't any good and could be called a Doom clone at best.
As for Retro, perhaps it was just a missing budget? I can't say why those games were cancelled, all I know is they delived with the Prime series and looking at Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, even that was a great game compared to what other companies put out.

Seriosuly thugh, it was lucky that Retro made the Prime series what it was. Retro Studios isn't exactly a great company. In fact they were lucky as fuck that Nintendo scooped them up for the Prime series.

Anyway I knew right where it was.

Well there was an interview where Matt Casamassina conducted an interview with none other than Shigeru Miyamoto, back in 2005:

"IGNcube: Will you make Kid Icarus for Revolution?

Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, I'm actually working really closely right now with the director of the [original] game. Now, whether or not when we get the Revolution all set up and everything is finalized, well who knows? That might be one of those characters where everybody says, "Hey, with the way our console is designed, that would be a perfect match." My question to you is, if we made this game would you buy it?

IGNcube: Absolutely.

Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, we obviously can't ignore that. Okay, we'll get the Eggplant Wizard coming back.

If Shiggy still remembers him after all these years, that's got to be a good sign – and another would be that we've already seen two different Kid Icarus levels revealed in the Brawl trailers so far. Could Pit call the cloud stage home, while Eggy here dwells in the Atlas-inspired underground dungeon? We can only hope – we'd love to attack our friends with his vegetable scepter, encasing their heads in attack-neutralizing eggplants."

So it's a possibility and I would love to see them make this game if they do anything like they did with Prime 3.
