Morning Surprise?

Over on the IGN boards this morning I have noticed something quite odd.A user is claiming he got a message on his Wii telling him that we will partake in the Brawl Beta Testing, and quite a few other users told him that they got the same message.
This being ‘The Vestibule’(Board), nothing can be quite trusted.His story went like this..

“My Wii was glowing and I checked to see if I had gotten a new message from someone, and it turned out to be from Nintendo. It said that my wii had been chosen for the Smash Bros Beta Demo along with a handful of others for now. It then gave me a clicky to go download the channel.
Entering the channel just gives a countdown for the demo to go live. 14 hours and 5 minutes remaining. I can’t wait…
Please tell me one of you guys got it too.”

While its still being questioned, he has provided this picture of ‘proof’

So, is it a clever photoshop or Nintendo’s surprise?

New pictures have been provided, along with an addition to the story.

“I downloaded the channel which when entered brought up a timer which expired by the time I got home from work today. Upon expiring it brought up a hub of downloadable goodies. The first being the demo of the game itself, which is 776 blocks (can someone translate that into MBs if anyone knows the ration). Also on the hub was an option for Characters to download as well as Game Modes. Characters being 80 blocks each and game modes being 40 blocks.

I started the download for the demo itself where I was greeted by a message that said it can take anywhere from half an hour to up to two hours to download. It’s already one speck through so I’m hoping that it’s going fast.”

He has provided two new pictures and is standing by waiting for his download to finish.

Going by the name of “tedd.kramer” on the boards, he has told us why he thinks he was chosen for this ‘beta’.

Apperently Tedd used to post on the offcial Nintendo boards about Brawl, constantly (Making him a known member). He also registered his Wii with that account.

We here at WiiNintendo still believe this guy has ’shopped those images, but MY imagination is running wild now!

    Ok, this is obviously for america only cos here in europe we didnt even get the metroid prime 3 preview channel. IT’S NOT FAIR!! europe never gets anything, and why is it specially selected? why cant it be everyone? let everyone get hyped up for the game by giving them a demo!

    This could be start of something great, but this demo would take up all the room on your Wii. Unless they are smart enough to let you download and launch from SD… otherwise I’d say it’s fake because the demo would have to be tiny (<400mb), people would have to move all their VC games to SD to fit it on.

    because i have about …. 10 and have all the channels and i have more than 1000 blocks left of space, so i can fit a demo.

    I’m betting it’s a photshop, only becuase the angle the guy took the photo at, and the blurryness.
    If it is a demo, I think they’d have to have watered the graphics down quite a bit…

    It would make sense to water down the graphic’s, and so far nothing is confirmed.

    I’m going to continue MY vote by saying its a fake.

    But there is still a chance it is a photoshopped picture, SD’d over to the Wii and opened fullscreen in the photo channel.

    I’m calling foul. For the metroid preview channel there was no clickable link in the message. It just directed you to the wiiware channel. These fakers need to work less on the screens and more on their story.

    Also, the timer is inside the channel? They made it sound like its on the face and its nowhere to be seen. I’d like to see a pic of that.

    everybody i called nintendo and they said they have no information about this they said it was a lie. the only new channel is mp3 preview channel so i am guessing it was a lie.

    I just worked something out. its not a photoshop

    hes must of made the picture on the comp and then put it on the photo channel OR just shown that image through the tv

    yeah its just the computer output onto a tv. even my graphics card can do that with an S-video cable.

    Besides, its most likley that nintendo have already finished their beta testing, and nintendo already have hand-picked beta testers so they wouldnt just go an give it out to random peoples consoles.

    flipboitamidles, you don’t know if you could fit a demo. Usually demos are 500MB+ The Wii has 512MB.
    Yeah, it could be the photo channel, or a Comp’s TV Out or anything.

    So we’ve established its fake but wouldn’t this have been a good idea anyway just so Nintendo could get some real time feedback on how the online was functioning. Of course this would NEVER fit on anyones memory unless it was heavily watered down (selection of one or two characters, one level, only one mode, ect.) For those who aren’t thinking logically about the memory and can’t get your head around the numbers. An NES game is so insignificant compared to the size of a N64 title, let alone a GC game, let alone a Wii game. I want to say that NES games would require thousands to fill up your system memory while N64 reduces that number to about 100 and some change. Consider how each system is multiplying the memory each generation and its easy to understand why demo’s right now, would not be possible or efficient until the SD connection is made. This also might hint at why we see so little N64 titles released. Nintendo wouldn’t want you to fill up that memory too soon. Imagine the debacle if peoples storage already filling up.

    I’m trusting this guy. Super Smash Bros Brawl is something everybody wants to play. In the time it would take to photoshop that picture just right he would have came to his senses and not posted it. He took 3 pictures, they all look real to me. I think everyone should agree that Nintendo does like to be secretive about this kind of stuff.

    Oh, and Wiigamer4life, who did you call? The Smash Bros Website? You really think that some customer service dude or whatever would have any info on this. They don’t know shit!

    It is easy to get that angle on a photoshopped screen; shop it at a normal angle then take a picture of it.

    You can’t even imagine how many public beta’s have been made. Wind Waker demo(its beta), CoD4, halo3, cant remember right now…

    Anyways, It’s a fake because:
    1. The Wii doesn’t have enough storage to save the beta , I mean SSBB is made in a DVD disk and a it has about 5GB+ and a beta would have 1/3 of that making it 1.6 GB(roughly) which is 3-4 times the Wii itself.

    2. There are A LOT of Wii mods for a PC so you can just make that screen with the Wii mod, hook up the PC to a TV monitor and take the pic. Voila! A perfect prank so the whole world can shock*sigh*

    3. Also in the picture the bar in the under side of the screen that has the Wii menu button and Start looks stretchy when it should cover at least 1/4 of the screen AND it HAS TO include the Hal labs(developer) copyright thing in a corner and the year it’s published.

    I had no idea!
    and by the way, the guy above me is being stupid.
    I saw my cuz playing it one time.
    it timed out before i got a chance to play.
    it pissed me off, but it was still cool watching it
