A Personal Thought…

We’ve been slow updating today, and I’d like to apologize for that. Life doesn’t always allow for us to be so fixated on the things we enjoy, though. For those that couldn’t tell, none of us here at Wiinintendo get paid to work on the site. We do it because of our passion for all-things-Nintendo, and the drive to instill that passion in you, the readers. To pay the bills, I work in an emergency department in a children’s hospital. I’m only involved on the registration side of things, so I don’t deal directly with patients that often. This morning, minutes after I came in, we had two kids die.

It’s strange. Death is prevalent in life. It has to be. It’s the inevitable outcome of life. However, just because its so ubiquitous, doesn’t make it easy. One of the children who passed away was a newborn, born only an hour beforehand. The cause for death was unknown, but it doesn’t really matter to the story. The thing that stood out was that one of the papers in the paperwork was titled “Progress Report.” It blew me away. There was virtually no progression in this kids life. Was it all for naught? Some people approach health care and its challenges with stoicism. “It’s part of the job,” is the undiluted mantra when one exits a hopeless room. I can’t help but entertain the pangs of pain and frustration I feel when I read “Patient Expired.”

I keep searching profusely for a point to my rambling, as you might be. Unfortunately for you, I don’t think there is one. Writing is therapeutic, and that’s the best answer. I imagine that for most of you reading, searching out the lastest gaming news is equally therapeutic. There’s something about stumbling upon a tip that hasn’t been unearthed yet. It gets your adrenaline moving. Sometimes, though, I think we need to take pause and give the things that hold their share of weight the attention they deserve.

In a culture of escapism, sometimes you can’t deny the things that don’t comfort you.

I kinda know how it is, I say just mourn for a bit and then…well G-Unit!..What Im trying to say dont cry over something that in the end someone wouldn’t want you to cry over. For example, I think the last thing you’d want on your mind when you pass away is that you leaving people to be sad.

“In a culture of escapism, sometimes you can’t deny the things that don’t comfort you.” – excellent point

yeah, dude. you’ve got a really good point. that would make me feel bad… just feeling sorry for me when i left…

  • Sainte

“Patient expired” I hate that term. It makes it seem like the person was just some kind of food that went bad. That just sounds like a disrespectful way to label a human.

  • Evdawg30

Wow, i guess I’ll comment on this. I know it must be sad to witness death of a very young age. Sometimes I don’t believe things happen for a reason, to have a life cut so incredibly short, it makes me think the death we had last week wasn’t as bad. Last week this 13 year old kid was riding an ATV, as he was riding up a hill at full speed he didn’t see a cable that was tightly up there. He decapitated himself, and died. To make matters worse his cousin witnessed the whole thing. Death is just a part of life, and its one of the hardest things to cope with.

I’m sorry Floating, and you are right.. It is something to me, a gaming world is somewhere I can get away too, and potentially be a hero of, keep on writing if it makes you feel better, I don’t think any of us really mind the none gaming rant.

Death is a part of life, and yeah it sucks when a life ends before it should. The good thing is that in most cases doctors do all that they can to help people, and no doctor wants a patient to die. I know it is hard for many doctors, but I don’t think it should be. Even if their patient dies, they should be proud knowing that they did every thing they could possibly do to help that person, and saving even one persons life and trying and being unable to save countless others makes up for it. If that makes sense.

life is transitory…. in a thousand years the whole human race won’t mean shit to a tree. Not to be crass but we are all born to die…who knows maybe there is a better game on the other side.

  • StoneThrower

Yeah, i know how that is.
3days before an old lady died that i knew, i worked with her in a super market, and she was super nice. Just know I realized that her children don’t speak with her. My mother had the last conservation with her.
Last year, a little girl. Step-sister of a friend of mine. Died on cancer… Her brother still lives. That broke my heart.

    Morituri Nolumus Mori.

ps. forgive my bad englisch, i am from germany and just woke up =/

Thanks for the responses guys. I’m definitely fine, it’s just a weird thing, because we live in a time where the average lifepspans are 70-80 years, and we’re just so disconnected from death that it’s harder for people to deal with. I may throw in a personal note every once in awhile.

Wow, on AOL News today, there’s a headline that says “More US Moms Dying in Delivery”. So I wonder what the cause may be.
Are they not getting enough vitamins and minerals, calories?

Thanks for the comment Brad. I just think we have to sometimes look at how society dictates we live our lives, and then question it.

We’ll try to keep Wiinintendo as honest as possible.
