Smash Bros Character Selection Screens? FAKE

roster.jpg

Update:(Floating World) (err this is the one I was talking about ^^)

I looked at this extensively yesterday and have complete confidence that its fake. I wasn’t going to post it, but I’ll give my reasons as to why this can be categorized as a fake.

1) Selected Characters

Each selected character is the same exact model from the Dojo (Smash bros official website). This sends up red flags to begin with. Surely the developers have more models than just the ones on the site. Even still, I guess it could make sense. Here’s where the photoshopper really screwed up though. Kirby’s model is actually slightly different! His right arm (on the left if you’re facing it) is moved down to his side, so as not to overlap on Samus. Huge mistake. After noticing this, the arm really looks tacked on and out of place. Check the pictures below for proof, taken directly from Dojo.

2) No cursor of any kind on the screen

Self explanatory, but there should be some kind of cursor on the screen to indicate selection. You might say, “but the game indicates gamecube control scheme, it wouldn’t use a cursor like the wiimote.” I would have to disagree. Melee used a controller-controlled cursor, and this one should to.

3) Characters in select screen

The actual character select pictures are nearly all taken from the dojo again, though some are flipped, probably to try to throw you off. It just screams of fake, when all of the parts that make up the screen come entirely from things we’ve already seen.

4) 50 Characters
50 Characters? I’m not saying that that many players won’t be available, because I think its certainly possible, but I don’t understand why they would conviently have EXACTLY 50 playable characters. It’s too calculated.

Leaked?

This one’s even worse. As has been pointed out in the comments, Luigi’s name is Pikachu. Seems like an issue, right? Also, the hand is the exact same hand used on the wii menu. That just seems VERY unlikely. I can’t believe the kind of publicity these fakes get.

Around The Net:

  • JimmyDief

Looks pretty good; but there’s almost no chance it’s real. Well done, though.

  • Jakeyodaddy

its good but not good enough

  • MinutesToMidnightLP

If it is real, I can’t wait to play as Paper Mario or Tom Nook. Great find anyway.

  • http://WiiFuse.com Max

That is fake since when was Luigi called Pikachu

  • 9th LEVEL

Considering that the only on screen cursor is off on the right side of the screen holding the character select badge while at the same time Meta Knight is somehow selected without a badge over his icon is kinda making me think this is another fake… Vary good one though!…

  • http://mojenintendo.cz RocketBG

    fake…

  • Fadecy

    @9th level

Actually if you look meta knight has a a blue coloured token over him, and the pointer holding the token is player 1

  • Max

It’s not good Luigi name on there is Pikachu.

  • hansning

did anyone see the other one on digg yesterday? almost no similarities.

  • Fadecy

    @hansing

I know I’d rather this one be in the game
    that one looks tacky…

  • aff

5 player survival, but only 4 spaces. fake

  • Fadecy

    @aff

it says 5 man survival, meaning 5 lives

  • Fadecy

Hey floating world there is a cursor you crazy boy look to the right

  • SirVenom

Max had the best point so far :P
But really, I had no doubt it was fake to begin with. If it is not on Dojo, it is not real.

  • SirVenom

Also, the characters are too randomly distributed.

  • hansning

it seems like the reasons he thinks it’s fake refers to the other screen, not this one. you should post them side by side.

  • Nemesis

I dont think they are fake at all or at least the first one isnt
Compare it to this page from smash bros dojo about nicknames
Look pretty much the same to me http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamemode/various/various02.html

  • http://wiinintendo.net/index.php?sFloating20%World Floating World

Nemesis: right, its directly lifted from the site. Look how Samus was moved over in the select screen to fit her in between the kirby and Mario.

Also why is link a torso-up shot, and the others are the full body?

  • schmete

The biggest mistake is that there are 50 character slots SHOWN. Correct me if I’m wrong, but in Melee not all the character slots were there before all the characters were unlocked. The ? boxes weren’t all there. Some appeared after the characters were unlocked. So, if there is ever a character select screen with 40+ ? boxes on it. You can pretty much throw it out.

  • Will

No one considers that select screens that are unfinished could possibly be leaked to the public. This could result in characters being in different slots or any number of mistakes like images not matching names. If an incomplete select screen was leaked I would expect the same errors. Anyone old enough to remember the changes made to Street Fighter II in the naming department intentional or not? Also, what does the select screens we’ve seen in the past have to do with the way a designer might want to set up his screen for the future? No doubt they are fake but I can see the white screened mock-up to be closest to what the final product might be.

  • jamie

    dude, luigi was never announced…

  • Rob

Cant say if its fake or real at this moment, but I can say that the reasons why it is assumed to be fake above are terrible.

A cursor on the wii only shows up normally if you are pointing at the screen. if someone put the remote down to take a picture it would not show up.

Kirbys arm doesnt look tacked on to me, but it would make perfect sense that they would make it moved down so as not to overlap.

Why would they not use the same pictures as online?? I see no reason this wouldnt be possible.

Also there could easily be 50 characters with a lot of the ones that have been announced lately being very obscure and the release of the game still quite far off (many more to announce).

Now yes, this screenshot is PROBABLY fake, but those reasons make no sense.

  • fadecy

anyway thanks for completely tearing my post apart floating world… I think we all knew it was fake anyway, you didn’t have to go all crazy on that screen shot’s ass.

  • http://wiinintendo.net/index.php?sFloating20%World Floating World

Rob, Kirby isn’t always going to be right next to Samus, what if his arm is too close to something when its moved down? And if they aren’t using the coin system, what system are they using exactly to distinguish who selected which character? And why, if every character is selected, is there no PRESS START on the screen?

And you didn’t even read the reasoning. I mentioned how GC controllers are used, and if it mimics melee’s system, there should be hands on the screen AT ALL TIMES.

Like I said before, its extremely suspicious that every piece of the screen has already been shown on the Dojo site, or in Melee. Your only argument against mine is…”your reasons make no sense,” but you don’t really make an argument agaisnt me.

  • Scathis

lol, didnt anyone notice, that metaknight and snake are missing? xDD

  • http://wiinintendo.net/index.php?sFloating20%World Floating World

Scathis, that’s a pretty weak argument, as they might not be unlocked yet.

also in the other games the characters you start with are grouped together and there is usually more basic ones to start with and the added ones are usually unlockable.
