Super Smash Bros. Brawl Online

With the big N keeping quiet about SSBB’s online, it actually happening was growing unlikely. However, Japanese retailer lists has confirmed a November 22nd release, with Wi-Fi capabilities. Hopefully Nintendo will confirm online features in Brawl near the game’s release date (God I hope so). Now let me make this clear: this has not yet been confirmed by Nintendo (Don’t want to get faithful fans mad).

Thanks to GameFront.

This is the only thing that would actually make me buy the game.
But not to burst your bubble, a Nov 22nd release in Japan doesn’t confirm anything for the US seeing as Nintendo announced at E3 it would be released on December 3rd. Not a lot behind Japan, but it’s almost two weeks assuming the 22nd of November holds true.

I don’t really care if it has Wi-Fi, because I could easily find somebody to play against anytime, but Wi-Fi would be a good way to see how good I really am.

Uhh… Isn’t it kind of silly to not have Wi-Fi in a game that was the most requested Nintendo online game and was originally conceived primarily for online gaming?

The proof is in the pudding (first six paragraphs or so)…

Even assuming that, for some reason, they decided to take out the primary purpose of Brawl, I’ve heard rumblings that a new issue of CoroCoro magazine in Japan (very trusted source, revealed a lot of the new Pokemon D/P stuff back when that was coming out) has been translated and contains mentions of online play. Don’t quote me on that one since I have no real proof of it.

So, yeah, not having Wi-Fi in Brawl when it was always meant to be an integral part of the new game would be like making it so Metroid Prime 3: Corruption could only be played with a Gamecube controller rather than the Wii-mote. Possible, but incredibly silly.

Oh, and one other thing. Post-E3, a Nintendo representative mentioned that, and I quote directly:

“After we get back from E3, we’ll look at the calendar and figure out the right time to do something very specific for Smash Bros. Brawl.”

Which means that just because they didn’t announce online at E3 doesn’t mean it’s not in.

Also, here’s where I found the rumblings of CoroCoro mentioning online:

    If Brawl isn’t online,
    i’ll still buy it.
It just won’t be as good,
and all the magazines an Sony an Microsoft fans will be laughing away their little heads and rate it like 80% and below.
    Sort it out nintendo.

I don’t yet have a Wii. Brawl is the only reason I plan on buying one. If its online I will buy a Wii. If not its very unlikely i’ll buy a Wii. This day and age a game like this better be online or it needs more development time.

Not having online in Smash Bros. would be the biggest disappointment in gaming history. The only reason they didn’t mention it at the e3 press conference was to get people like us talking about it… Getting the hype train moving, and they did that in a big way. Why else would they be talking WiFi games… then all of the sudden stop and start talking Smash Bros. I’m pretty certain it’ll be online, if it isn’t… I’m going to be pissed.
