Microsoft and Sony both have expressed greatly how they wish to appeal to the overall market as well, with fun house hold mini games and such. Nintendo just got the jump on them and people are hurt by it not being all about the bad ass games. You have to remember its all about the $$ in the end. Not pleasing "fanboys" or "hardcore" gamers.

I how ever would like to see more shooters of all types for the Wii. For the wiimote to pull a mouse gamer in has to say something about hardcore gaming right there. If you asked me I would say "PC shooter games are the definition of hardcore gaming" any one who has competed seriously in quake, ut, cs would no doubt say the same thing.

I'm real excited about both the DS and Wii game lineup for the end of 07 however.

There are always naysayers FW. The thing is that Nintendo has always done their thing and went against the press. Have they gone a little far with this Wii Fit thing, maybe but it doesn't matter because
1. It will make a ton of money regardless
2. This is obviously another glorified demo title like Wii Sports and Wii Play in order to introduce the board.
3. The potential for that board can be further tapped by anyone making games for the console

I think the later is the point no one thinking about. Think about games like Time Crisis where you have to duck behind boxes. Or stealth games where you have to balance across rooftops or tight ropes. Think about the possibilities for virtual reality Nintendo is pushing for. The problem is that often gamers are used to their sequel after sequel and it takes stark contrast sometimes to revitalize everything. Remember what people said about Link in Wind Waker and now its an instant classic. Or what was said about a 3D Metroid.... um I think that turned out classic too. Or what about a fad system that was supposed to have had its clock cleaned by the PS3. Are we seeing a trend here?

Ultimately we know not all ideas work but the great thing is that Nintendo is never going to stop being innovative and introducing the world to different ways of playing video games. Imagine playing games with no rumble features, (how dynamic that made things). And how about Track and Field, would we have DDR without that classic NES pad? Do you think Sony or MS are pushing for these new ideas or are they the true conformists?

Nicely written article again by Floating World... I like to see these kinds of articles since they get people's minds flowing ;-}

I do agree that it seems like some gamers are getting angry when they hear people getting excited for different games like Wii Fit. I also agree that it doesn't harm us gamers since they also come out with more mainstream games as well. Nintendo has always been the pioneers to try new and different things so I like to keep an open mind with them. Some things fail but the things that work, work well. I would like to add that I feel the Wii has made video games more acceptable to women, since i have several girl friends who play the Wii but would never play any other system...
