Wii at E3: highlights

e3* The Wii Zapper! Kinda like the NES lightgun, but more awesome, the zapper will be for use with Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Sega’s Ghost Squad, Medal of Honor and no doubt every other shooter. The Zapper will be packaged with games, and costs $19.99.

* Super Smash Bros. Brawl hits shelves on Dec. 3rd. It can’t come fast enough!

* Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS got a little love with a demo of the all-touch interface.

* Check Mii Out: A new channel where you send in your Miis to be evaluated and voted upon by others.

* Online Advances: Nintendo’s consoles have never been top dog when it comes to online, but the following online Wii titles might change that: Mario Strikers Charged, Madden NFL 08 and FIFA 08 will soon be online.

* Mario Kart on Wii, also online, drops early in 2008.

* Steering Wheel: Comes with Mario Kart.

* Brain Age 2 is out in the US on August 20.

* Super Mario Galaxy drops November 12th.

* The Nintendo Fat Mat was shown. Okay, it’s not called the Fat Mat, but we think it should be. It’s actually called a Wii balance board. The wireless, weight-sensitive mat comes with Wii Fit, a fitness trainer game. You might think you’re too hardcore for it, but imagine the possibilities of a balance and weight sensitive mat combines with SSX Tricky or a Tony Hawk game. See what we’re saying?

Nintendo had the worst presentation of all three and I thought Microsoft’s sucked.

I need to reserve Galaxy, Mario Kart, and Brawl now, probably. Phantom Hourglass has been reserved since 2005.:)

I didn’t even think about SSX when I saw that thing, but that’d be awesome. You could use a Wii remote at the same time to do tricks.

Thankfully the steering wheel won’t be necessary for Mario Kart. One will be nice for online, but there are enough new peripherals without having to buy three extras.

The Wii Zapper looks AMAZING. I might buy all three of the games confirmed to use it. Definitely Medal of Honor.

If Nintendo’s bragging about FIFA and Madden online, they need to realize that Xbox had them online in 2004. I love them, but that’s nothing to brag about.

    The release dates are great!

Muwhahahaha….. everything looks great and this is just the beginning of the Wii. One question:

What is this ‘Medal of Honor’ that they mention with the Wii. Is this a new online Medal of Honor…!!! I read something like:

    — Reggie shows Ghost Squad from Sega for Wii, works with Wii Zapper. EA’s Medal of Honor for Wii is built specfically to take advantage of Wii Zapper. Up to 32 soldiers in “multiplayer” mode. Must be online. Other Wii Zapper plans from third party partners. –

If this is the case then I couldn’t be happier. I really hope games can use the wii pad and remotes at the same time. They could really add another level of immersion with the pad.

I’m pretty sure I saw a picture of someone using both at the same time, kevbo.

Medal of Honor will have 32 player online battles and will use the Zapper shell. Sign me up!

I’m dying for a James Bond game on the Wii. You should be able to use the shell for just about any FPS, if you wanted to. All buttons are accessible, so I don’t see a reason why you couldn’t. I guess some gestures would be hard to do.

i’d like to see nintendo revive the punch out!! game for the wii. players could use the wiimote and nunchuck to box, like in wiisports, but they could use the balance board for leaning and dodging. i’d just really like to see those punchout guys like king hippo, don flamingo, etc with updated graphics. they could use mii integration, too, so we don’t have to play just as mac.
