The “ALF” Wii Sports connection?

Ever since I heard the first sounds of Wii Sounds I thought it sounded familiar. One day, while having too much time on my hands (actually it only took an hour), I decided to track down the familiar sounds and compose it against Wii Sports to find out.

Watch/Listen to the video above and judge for yourself.

Here’s my conspiracy theory: (not really it’s a joke)

Most of us are familiar with Kazumi Totaka, who is a music composer for many major Nintendo games, including Mario Paint and Animal Crossing. He occasionally also does voice acting for Nintendo games, including Yoshi from the Mario and Yoshi series. Kazumi is also known for the infamous “Kazumi Totaka’s Song” a short, 19 note, looping tune, hidden in almost every game he has worked on as a composer. Kazumi is the composer of Wii Sports.

Now enter Alf Clausen, who by no coincidence to his name is the composer of the 80′s TV series “ALF” (god I loved that show). Now Alf (not ALF) has done his fair share of composing too. He recently wrote the music fora Simpsons episode, here is the plot of that episode:

Marge becomes a spectacle during a PTA meeting for not having an e-mail address, and she decides to take a chance on using the Internet. Amazed and delighted by all the Internet has to offer, Marge joins a popular role-playing fantasy game called “Earthland Realms.” To Marge’s dismay, the game has her interacting with practically the whole town of Springfield

Now, Marge (a non-gamer) was able to pick up and play “Earthland Realms” very easily, sound familiar? Wii Sports. Grandmothers who don’t know what Television is are picking up and playing Wii Sports.

The Theory itself:

Kazumi saw that episode of the Simpsons and flew to the US to meet up with Alf, since the episode was obviously a reference to the Wii and Alf composed the music for that episode.  Kazumi expressed that he was having writers block while trying to come up with the next great song for Nintendo’s new console (really it was an angry Miyamoto demanding a great tune or he’ll be fired and then sued for hiding songs in games). Alf agreed to help. After the two tried laying down some contemporary tracks, Alf decided to show Kazumi his portfolio of work to see if anything would inspire him. He popped in the ALF DVD boxset and Kazumi was blown away. Kazumi then went back to Japan where he watched every episode of ALF and got inspired to come up with the Wii Sports theme!

Also, in this months issue of Nintendo Power, ALF won their Mii competition…

The truth is out there.

That had to be the stupidest thing I ever wrote… Oh well.
