Market Research creeps into the Everybody Votes Channel? May 8, 2007

everybody votes
When the Everybody Votes Channel first appeared most everyone said the same thing. “Wow, Nintendo could easily use this to make decisions about what to release or produce! And Nintendo fans were happy because finally we felt like we had a direct outlet to Nintendo to convey how we feel. Then the questions with the Everybody Votes Channel appeared. “Who will win the next American Idol? “Can you snap your fingers? And so on. Nothing all too interesting and I quickly lost interest.

Well, my interest peeked a bit more when doing my weekly voting yesterday and saw a new question. “How do you prefer to buy music, download or CD?

Is Nintendo finally starting to edge in some market research here? This possibly could be a random user submitted question, but hopefully it’s something more on the marketing side. Now let’s see something a little more relevant to Nintendo like, “which would you rather receive as a Christmas gift, a new Zelda title or a new Metroid title?

Another blogger had a pretty interesting take on the question over at aeropause.

  • Well my what came first the chicken or the egg question recently was on the channel. (Yay)

With regards to using it for market research I don't think it would be a good idea for Nintendo to use it's own platforms it. It would also spoil the randomness of the channel :P

No one saw this before?! When I first heard of the vote channel launching this was instantly my first thought. Look at the questions they choose. I've must have sent in 20 or so gaming related questions and none or any like them have appeared as I'm sure most of the rest of you have. I'm almost positive that Nintendo is using or sharing this information in some way as opposed to it being simply novelty. Personally I like maintaining a high score and I have no hard feelings about it, as we are always surrounded by these sorts of things. I would like to think the Nintendo community is more concerned about the gaming world than American Idol (2 questions already) but I guess we are all newbie/amateur gamers as opposed to being raised on the stuff.

I sent in the "How do you prefer to buy music: Download or CD" question! I saw it fitting after my nickname online is CD.:D

If they use this right it could be a big use to Nintendo. and it will make the fans fill like they have a say.
  • I've used the EV channel to see what Virtual Console releases Wii owners would like to see more of in the Wii Shop. But my questions have not shown up yet.

I don't know how some people say the channel is useless, when they've only tried it once and ended with its first impression.
