EA Playground

Electronic Arts, will in the near future, officially announce a brand new title for the Wii.

The game, tentatively titled EA Playground, is developed by EA Canada is set for release on both Wii and DS. Each version will take advantage of the unique attributes of the system to deliver players multiplayer-enhanced experiences inspired by such titles as Wii Sports.

IGN recently chatted with EA Playground’s executive producer, Dave McCarthy, to learn more. Here’s what he had to say:

IGN Wii: What is EA Playground all about?

Dave McCarthy: EA Playground is all about capturing the sheer fun of being a kid. We’ve designed a dream playground full of interesting characters, cool collectables, and most importantly, a mix of easy to pick up and incredibly fun playground games. There are some classic favorites in there along with some new twists. It’s all packaged together in a meaningful single player “campaign” to play your way through the schoolyard. In addition, there’s also an approachable and fun multiplayer party experience that will appeal to all ages.

IGN Wii: Can you tell us about some of the games in EA Playground and how they utilize the Wii/NDS control schemes?

Dave McCarthy: When we started designing the game we had a ton of good ideas to choose from. After all, kids are incredibly creative when it comes to having fun in a playground setting. We put together our short list based on fun factor, approachability, multiplayer appeal, and the opportunity for control innovation. The cool thing is that we were left with a mix of games representing a range of genres, so there’s always something different to try out in the playground.

I think Nintendo should Produce a Wii-mote Device that gives you the ability to shock people when they step out off line. Kind of like the 10th poster?!

    Scott.

i think it's 'kidish' not to use the word childish..
looking forward to this game, and the multiplayer fun - which is what the wii is all about :)

I think nintendo should produce a game centered around the correct usage of and the proper spelling of English words and language structure in general.
  • ^That's an obvious point already and not worth mentioning over again..

This may be EA's imitation of Wii Play. I can imagine using the DS or Classic controller to control those RC cars. \:D/

How about online for this? If they coulkd nail the games and have decent graphics, coupled with online, it'd be a really fun game.
  • I agree with you Quiche_on_a_leash.

It's 5 month's after launch, publishers/developers need to bring it up in the graphics department. I think a lot of publishers know they can get away with putting out a game with sub-par graphics and they can do better. I guess it comes down to $$$ and the sooner they put the game out, the more they can jump on the "Wiimote craze".

That being said, RE4, RE: UC, Metroid, Mario Galaxy, and Manhunt all look AMAZING!!!
  • It looks like a good idea.. we just need to see how they pull it off at the end :)...
  • I know it's all about game play but seriously those graphics look completely atrocious.

As long as they nail the games it should be a decent enough game though.
  • For me it's really going to be dependent on how well the Wii-mote controls are.

If they can replicate the fun of bowling, tennis, or darts (In Monkey Ball) I'm all over this.

This weekend at a party I won 20$ in a Monkey Ball Darts tournament, so fun!

Also, a bunch of people in Philly are talking about starting a Wii bowling league that plays each others teams at an actual bowling alley. I think these mini game, games, are great if done right
  • well, i dont want to say this because its stereotypical for people to say this about wii games or the wii in general..but this is just to "kiddy" for me
