Miyamoto could be Time Magazine’s most influential

miyamotoMaking it as one of the 200 candidates of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People of the Year” is everyone’s favorite Nintendo game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto.

His achievements, according to Time include:

PRO: Most successful game designer, creator of Super Mario, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda, whose new platform, the Wii, is currently the top-selling game console.

CON: His perfectionist tendencies often result in games being significantly delayed and, despite the Wii’s gameplay innovation, its graphics are far behind the competition.

Right now 12:30 PM EST 4/23/07 Miyamoto is #43 out of 200!

Update 1: He’s now #5!  (3:40 PM EST 4/23/07) I went around to a lot of Nintendo message boards and asked people to vote, everyone do the same, we can get him to #1 and on the cover of TIME.

The really stupid part is that someone of higher positions should technically be more influential than a Korean Pop Singer I have never heard of or a hockey player from America.

This is merely a popularity contest. As much as I hate him, what about Steve Irwin? The whole world mourned his death. There isn’t even one Australian there! We have such a diverse competition there.

Yea looks like he’s sitting pretty at #2, Stephen Colbert probably has a commanding lead with all of his followers. May be hard to shake him. I think this has to be a popularity contest because its basically a poll of who the people think are the most influential. The outcome is always a credible individual because they command the largest fan base (thus influential).

You should do another update, right now he’s sitting at #1 at avg 88. Close behind is Stephen Colbert at avg 87 over J.K. Rawlings.
