Blame Adobe for no Flash upgrade!

Flash
With the new release of the Opera browser for Wii we rejoiced at some of the great updates like improved zooming and the hidden toolbar feature. But many of us also cringed at the lack of tabbed browsing and no updates to the Flash player among other things.

Well now we have someone new to blame for the Wii browser’s shortcomings (at least one of them anyway). It turns out that Adobe hasn’t released a Flash software development kit that will allow anyone to run the newer versions of flash outside of a Windows, Mac or Linux environment. It looks like we’re all waiting on Adobe to release a new Flash software development kit. As well as another browser update from Nintendo and Opera of course.

Seriously, can you blame them? How many devices are there that don’t run Windows, Mac or Linux that want to play Flash and why would it be worth it for Adobe to invest time in making more SDK(s)?

Blame Macromedia for selling themselves to Adobe. :D /
I wish there’s another alternative to Flash.
A whole new format that’s better than both Flash and Java.

The life cycle of a software company:
    1. Grows
    2. Shrinks
    3. Either goes out of business or gets bought out by Adobe or Google.

Java is not a media format, its a programming language. You cannot compare it at all to Flash!

There will be a micro$oft-ish Flash called WPF/E, but I doubt that’s what you are hoping for ;)

@sudo, Yeah its true that java is a programming language but remember that flash also has its own programming language too so they are comparable. Both are used to imbed media in websites. I too wish there was a flash alternative just for the sake of competition. I wouldn’t count on Microsoft’s flash alternative being that big a deal. Everytime they try to create their own alternative to anything is seems to bomb (like msn search).

Opera has licensed its rendering engine for use in Adobe products. There’s no reason to conclude that Opera for Wii will not eventually be updated!

So much stuff now requires a later version of flash that it’s getting irritating. I wish Nintendo would release a system update with a newer version of the flash player. Youtube is pretty much the only thing that still works.
