The World Is Flat


The Wii menu screenshot is not mine. Not even I’m crazy enough to pay for Soccer or Wario Woods.

I don’t own any of my old systems anymore, except for an NES and a Dreamcast gathering dust at my mother’s house. Aside from, er, “other” means, the Virtual Console has become my gateway to relive all of my favorite gaming moments, with a kickass Classic Controller to boot.

Things brings me to a problem: between the Virtual Console games and the Channel downloads, I’m currently on screen three of the Wii menu, which maxes out at four screens.

I hope that this is something that can be fixed via a Firmware update. The way I see it, there are a couple of options.
- Simply extend the amount of available screens in the current fashion
- Allow games / channels to be run directly off of an SD card

I really hope that I don’t have to resort to archiving games on SD and loading them into Wii memory when I want to play them. One thing I love about the VC is being able to switch between games in an instant.

I currently have all the Virtual Console games that I want (see below), but if these weekly releases continue, I can see myself hitting the limit around summertime :(

    Heres the catch. People are running out of memory on their Wiis but Nintendo seems to be hesitant to let players play games off SD cards or add an external HD to the mix.

    I’m only speculating here but I think this is because Nintendo is probably afraid of opening a backdoor to piracy. Either that or its another classic example of Nintendo being stubborn and not meeting their loyal consumer’s demands (like with online gameplay so far).

    Someone should inform Nintendo that it’s too late. Piracy has already taken off, so go ahead and let us utilize our SD cards like we ought to, and break-in those USB ports before they erode.

    Its like they are setting themselves up for their sales to suffer. I guess I never realized that there are only 4 screens to save channels on. In reality I think most peoples memory will just about fill out at 4 screens with addition of the upcoming channels. To top it all off data management on the Wii is atrocious. It is literally a case of moving information from the card to the console when you want to play games. Who’s idea was this? My SD card is pretty much useless.

    Give us fucking external USB support so we can VC games from Sega Saturn and Sega CD and Turbo-CD in order to play games like NiGHTS before the sequel comes out and the proper Bomberman and Guardian Heroes for fucks sake. I’ve looked it up. Six people in the whole world still own a Saturn. Various parts of my body own its own SNES, however. So less Super Mario Bros which is out for every Nintendo console, and more rare gems.

    You know i read from wiili.org that possible future updates will include keyboard and USB key support… I agree tho, Nintendo is very stubborn WHICH is starting to really piss me off (yeah the online thing is a magnificent example…) But i hope this bs will soon end.

    I agree with Roth. I’ve sent some emails, as well as the Everybody Votes suggestion (though I doubt Nintendo pays much attention the suggestions that are of a serious nature)

    Why don’t they just keep a track of which VC games we’ve purchased on their servers (which I think they already do) and just periodically check if VC games are legit? We’d get extra room in external storage and there’d be no backdoors for piracy.

    I don’t think I even have room for another game save file… I am maxed out. I didn’t even use all of my slots, and I had to start moving stuff to my card.
