External HD for the Wii?

Many gamers were slightly annoyed or disappointed that the Wii would only feature 512MB of Flash Memory, and not a hard drive (either internal or external).

Well, according to Jeux-France, an external hard drive could well be on the way from Nintendo.

The babelfish translation from Jeux-France states: According to the last rumours coming from the Japanese magazine Gamelabo, a source considered to be rather reliable, it would seem that the exit of an external hard disk for Wii was decided at an internal meeting at Nintendo a few days ago. Nothing official for the moment, to follow.

We’re hoping that a hard drive eventually sees the light of day, and that it will be put to good use, maybe even for downloadable content via WiiConnect24. We’ll bring you more information on this as it happens.

    Not having an internal hard drive helped keep costs for consumers down though. And with SD cards rapidly expanding in size and coming down in cost at the same time, its not really that hard to add memory for things like VC games and everything else.

    I just grabbed a 1 gig micro-SD card for $13 last week on Newegg.com :)
