Super Paper Mario Release Date Announced February 12, 2007
Nintendo just announced that Super Paper Mario will be hitting the Wii on April 9. The game was originally set for the Gamecube, but wouldn’t that be silly. Yes, we need some straight up classic Mario action on the Wii. Hopefully this game wasn’t already nearing completion when they made the shift. I guess we’ll know in a few months.
Super Paper Mario is a Platform/role-playing video game currently in development by Intelligent Systems, a division of Nintendo. It was originally set for release on the Nintendo GameCube but is now exclusive to the Wii.
It is similar to the previous two Paper Mario titles and the Super Mario Bros. for the Famicom / Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The game will combine side-scrolling 2D gameplay with free roaming 3D graphics and to a somewhat lesser extent, RPG elements (unlike the RPG-style gameplay of previous Paper Mario games).[1]
In the March 2007 issue of Nintendo Power, it was stated that the game is to be released in April 2007.
Not much is known, although a recent Nintendo Power issue has confirmed some details. It confirmed, through a screenshot, a villain’s name, Count Bleck, along with plots. Mario, for reasons unknown, has found his way into a town called Flipside, where a black hole resides above the city along with odd mathematical equations floating about in the air.
Here is some footage (of what is most likely the Gamecube version):
