FFXI, not on Wii because of Friend Codes February 2, 2007
It’s no secret to any of us, that we’ve had a lot of trouble with those nasty Friend Codes Nintendo are using to manage online play, first it was the pain of having a different code for every DS game we have.
With the Wii, seems like Ninty was a little bit closer to what customers wanted, and well, they made Console Friend Codes, so we would only need one friend code for all of our games.. Still it wasn’t perfection, but it was less painful… When it was announced that Pokemon Battle Revolution would have it’s own friend codes, those DS codes memories came back… Many say this is Nintendo’s way to digg it’s own grave in online gaming…
Now, what about Square-Enix??.. The Senior VP of the company, Hiromichi Tanaka, kinda feels like all of us, and during an interview with Cubed3, he said, that Ninty’s codes system is what is holding Square Enix back from bringing online gaming to the Wii (seems like Final Fantasy XI was in their plans). He claims that the company is currently in talks to resolve that issue.
This means that many speculations of FFXI hitting the Wii are very unlikely now, even with the support the company has given lately to Nintendo, this fact will remain untold until the friend code system has been resolved.. Let’s just hope that Square execs can talk some sense into Nintendo and can have their own logging system so we can have many great MMO’s on the Wii…
