well they need to listen to all consumers, especially me! get it right sony or you will suffer to the point where this system ends up like gamecube or worse dreamcast, i loved them both, but they didn't give consumers what they wanted, only nintendos 1st party titles gave ppl what they wanted, except online play. the pres of nintendo at that time was stubborn. new pres is smart, sony needs a new pres, he lost his touch.

They actually lowered the price in Japan in September, I guess when the Japanese complain about the price Sony has to listen.

Boy oh boy, Sony is getting desperate. Not only are they losing to the Wii, they are losing mucha moola ($) on every ps3 sold. And now they're thinking about a price cut:

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601101&sid=aXr.PBbgNC6Y&refer=japan

The article states that the cut will be for Japan--their home turf, where they're reporting losses around $1.6 billion smakeroos.

All the while, Nintendo reports profits. It's so hard not to be smug.

FINALLY a post with guts, sony is gonna be hurting a long time over the ps3 while nintendo can upgrade consoles at a steady pace, sony studies wii an even tried stealing the motion sensing controller idea and failed, sixaxis tilt sucks, eyetoy was a gimmick, i know cause i got it and only have the game it came with, got boring too quick, but the similar games on wii are still fun, sigh, now im trying 2 sell a ps3 and cant! WTF?! i bet all kinds of ppl that wii would outdo ps3, nobody even knew what wii was and look at it go. i hope sony can get it together, i dont want bill gate's xbox being my second option, but i feel like wii60 not ps3wii right now, i luv my wii :]

Sony is merely mudslinging to save face for their poor marketing technique. Just because you have a fanbase doesn't mean you can half@ss a launch, let alone with a price point out of reach of most of your consumers. True, the CEO has to say this because his investers likely more than furious but the point remains that Sony is bad business in my opinion. I've thought so for a long time. When they hit the scene with the PS1 I didn't see them as a Nintendo or Sega, people PASSIONATE about gaming. They are merely trying to put their hands in everything from games, movies, and music. They are failing because they are trying to be a master of trades. That statement about "hardcore gamers", most of their market base thought games were for kids before when we all know that most gamers are in their 20's and 30's. This same market base is faddish and knows nothing about games (this now to Nintendo's advantage). They see nothing new in the PS3 and can't get over the price and start up. I've always been a Nintendo loyalist because they make great games and care about their image. I would say the "hardcore" gamers are also right here with Nintendo, Why not? Sony's desperate attempts are no surprise to me. Definately a poorly managed company.

287,000 is not a lot when you think of how many laptops have been sold/are in circulation. All batteries of the batch were re-called and I don't even know if it's been proven that they are faulty, but it was of course the right thing to do, don't want some one's nuts blowing up.
But I don't want to go off-topic any further

reefinyateef: I agree, I mean that is a lot of money, at least to me.

I wouldn't classify anything that's $250 as an impulse buy. With that said, the Wii is pretty enticing for someone that's already looking for some sort of entertainment.

Sony doesn't care about the so called "hard core" gamer. They proved that when they included features on the PS3 that are geared more towards the multimedia enthusiast crowd. HDMI, 1080p and a removable ATA hard drive do not a worthy console make. Tsk tsk Sony. I honestly looked forward to seeing some great games but instead your lineup smacks of high budget tech-demos.

I'm not denying that Sony has some great products. I'm saying that as a whole their corporate culture sucks. And as for a few laptop batteries, try 287,000 (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15254251/). And I'm not even positive if that covers the Dell batteries Sony made for them too that were recalled as well.

shanoboy, Sony is a big company and the music department has little to do with the gaming department. Let's not forget Sony does produce CD-R/RS and DVD+/-R/RW and why? Because these sections of the company do not work together or rarely. All sections should be considered an own company out to make their own profits the best they can even they should be rivaling against themselves (Sony DVD Burner anyone?). While I also hate their music section, it cannot be denied that Sony can engineer the shit out of most companies. I have heard how loud the PS3 is and I was expecting a lot of noise and it is very quiet. Their laptops to the most part are very good, they defiantely had that batch of faulty batteries, but faulty batches can always occur for several reason and why it really happened we'll probably never know.
The only reason I am not going to bother with a PS3 is that I don't even own an HDTV. I want to purchase one, but even that would be a small one and just not worth the money to experience ratio. I am a poor student and for me the Wii was expensive.

Sony sucks all around as a company. No one can deny that the PS1 and PS2 were both awesome consoles with tons of great games. But get this: most all the lawsuits the RIAA push out against small time filesharers Sony/BMG pushes. They have endlessly tried to monopolize the market with their formats since the Beta Max, and for God's sake they were even installing trojans on peoples computer (the rootkit BS) through their music CDs. And lets not forget the whole exploding laptop battery fiasco! Maddox hates them too, which is enough for me: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=sony_bullshit

That's the kind of posturing that executives have to do. The alternative is to say, "Wow, we screwed up. We guessed wrong and it's too bad for the people who already invested $600+."

It also sounds condescending the way he's using the term "casual gamer". Like "casuals" don't count, I guess. What about "Old Skool" gamers. Sony's back catalog can't compete with Nintendo, IMO.

And Hardcore vs. Casual-- on a console? The reason I _buy_ a console is for casual gaming... $600 is closer to a hardcore price, and I do my hardcore gaming on a PC.

Nice try Sony; stop trying to force a corporate agenda (Beta, Blu-Ray) on us, _learn_ from this mistake and move on.
