A quick look at Hotel Dusk January 27, 2007

Yeah, yeah. I know all you guys are itching to read my next VC review and haven’t been able to eat or sleep since the last one. But you guys are gonna have to wait a bit longer, and heres why…

I GOT HOTEL DUSK!

Hotel Dusk

That’s right ladies, I got my grubby little paws on what’s supposed to be the hard to find ’must have’ game of the new year. Now I’ve had a little time to play it and I thought I would share my first impressions.

Hotel Dusk

Where to start? Well, it LOOKS real nice. Stylistically this game’s a beauty, I love the hand drawn look on top of the nice 3D backgrounds. And of course it has that nice “Film Noir” detective story feel to it we all knew it would have. So no complaints there, but the MUSIC.. well lets just say I’ve been playing with the sound off and leave it at that. Also the dialogue is a little campy but at least there is no voice acting so you wont feel like your stuck in a movie that has been translated from English to Japanese and back again.

Lastly I have to mention the controls. VERY COOL. Screw buttons, this game (as anyone who has been following this knows) is played entirely with the stylus (with a left handed option). Basically you watch what’s going on in one screen while you move around on the map with the other or select your dialogue options/what-have-you. Also theres a neat little memo book you can write to yourself in a-la-pictochat. This game looks a little slow to start but I’m banking it will bring in the tacos once I play it a little more. Stay tuned…

Can't say I've played ither of those games, so i guess I'll just have to take your word on it. This one is ok, can't say T'd recomend it yet but hopefully the action/story will pick up soon.

Sweet! I haven't had a chance to pick this one up. I wasn't to thrilled at Cing's first outing-Trace Memory. But it looks like this interwines the adventure solving of Trace Memory with the mystery and clues of Phoenix Wright games. Very cool.
