Where’s the third-party love?

GI sat down with Brian Dreyer, business development manager for Frontline Studios, who said that publishers are currently watching how the Wii develops in popularity until releasing for the Wii as well.

Dreyer implies that people purchase Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games. I myself see this as no surprise when publishers are releasing games that are a bad port with motion controls. Nintendo on the other hand is developing only for it’s systems and most of it is quality, hence people buy a lot of Nintendo games instead of poor ports. Why would they do it any different? Development for the Wii is supposed to be cheap, but it may cost the publisher the profits of missing out on a Xbox 360 and/or PS3 title.

Take this example:
Capcom wanted to release 3 GameCube exclusive Resident Evil titles, but ultimately had to port RE4 to the PS2, because the game only moved about 1.2 million units while the PS2 version outsold it in a few months time.
Dreyer also states that they are working on a Wii title, because the Wii is back to the basics of gaming. Fun.

r u like 12 or something squirrel? n e ways 3rd party support is in effect, EA, Tecmo, capcom, konami, ubisoft, and others all have games in the works. hopefully they will be good and not just made to fill the time between nintendos franchise games.

flamingsquirrel, that is a picture of the prototype “Nintendo Revolution”, is an outdated picture…

Anyways, I would love to see some exclusives, but I lost all my faith on CAPCOM after RE4 went on PS2.. I just hate that…

Let’s hope that Wii doesn’t suffer the same fate on it’s “exclusive” games…

Actually, the correct project name was “Revolution” rather than “Nintendo Revolution”. Similar to how Microsoft called their new OS system project, Longhorn, before it became what it is now officially Windows Vista.

I wanted to point this out because so many people, I mean more than enough people, tend to think it had been the official name for Nintendo’s next console or something. It’s simply just the codename of the project they’re working on, and not what the product is called.

Otherwise, if you would’ve put it as Nintendo’s Revolution, that would’ve been fine also. I apologize for any in convenience. :D /

If a game is made for the Wii, and made right, then games remaining exclusive wouldn’t seem to be as much of a problem.

Not that it’d be impossible and would never happen, but how do you take a great Wii game, one that takes advantage of the uniqueness of the system, and port it to another system? Basic tilt control could be ported to the PS3 I suppose. But that’d be about it.
