The Army has actually been dealing with this for a number of years. Had some trainees die in the late 1990s due to water intoxication from being forced to drink water to prevent dehydration. It actually involves an electrolyte imbalance. Sad really.

Omg ya i remember hearing this a couple weeks ago when they started the contest on the radio. at first i was like i should totally enter. but i never got to it, good thing. i just heard about the death today and the Morning rave(the morning talk show group) along with 10 other people that were there were fired. I loved listening to them, they were hilarious and was a great way to start out my morning. Later in the day when it was going to an end they talked to her and she said she had a huge headache and they offered her concert tickets to quit, but she said no,then she finally gave in and got the tickets. Unfortunatly she couldn’t go to the concert. well these things happen, nto very often, but they do happen.

How defensive can you get, claiming CNN is “only reporting bad things about WII”? WTF? I read nothing in there about the stupid system, just that a radio station encouraged some stupid behaviour and a young mother who was trying to do something for her kids is now dead. Show some respect.

I remember a decade or two ago a lady forced her son (2 or 3 years old) to drink two gallons of water because he kept waking her in the middle of the night asking for water. The kid died the next morning.

The radio station will probably shell out some $$$ just to make ammends even though it really wasn’t their fault. How sad for some kids to lose their mom that way.

May she rest in peace.

Apparently this isn’t uncommon, I can recall hearing at least 2-3 cases of this. I think it was from Frat initiation…

Anyway, if the radio station had any sense, these contestants would have signed a waiver. That isn’t to say that there won’t be any consequences for them, but there are two important things:

1. She did it of her own free will
2. Not everyone in the contest died

IANAL, but I think that means the radio station probably isn’t responsible. They *should* at least try to make good and spend some money on those kids.
