25 years of my life!
I just turned 25 today (lord, I am a quarter of a century old) and couldn’t be feeling better.
Now let’s reflect on my gaming life:
I received my first Nintendo system exactly 19 years ago on January 10th of 1988. My first two games were Defender II and Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. Some of my other games were:
- Metroid
- Excitebike
- Mega Man’s 1, 3, 4, and 5
- Maniac Mansion
- Wrecking Crew
- RC Pro-Am
- Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3
- The Legend of Zelda
- To the Earth
- The Mafat Conspiracy
- Iron Warrior
- The Addams Family
- and I had a Zapper
My Super NES was given to be on Christmas of 1991, in which I got Super Mario World from my parents, and Paperboy 2 from my Uncle Joe. And I had 15 for my Super Nintendo:
- Super Ghouls’N Ghosts
- Super Smash TV
- TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
- Mario Paint
- Super Empire Strikes Back
- Stunt Race FX
- Mortal Kombat 2 and 3
- Killer Instinct
- Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2
- Super Tecmo Bowl 3
- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
Next, I decided to get the N64 on launch day (September 29th, 1996), but I didn’t wait early in the morning for it. After several stops of not finding it, my mom and I found one at three in the afternoon at K-Mart. I got the system and Super Mario 64 for $300. Some of my 27 N64 Games were:
- Shadows of the Empire
- Killer Instinct Gold
- Mortal Kombat Trilogy
- Cruis N’ USA
- Cruis’ N World
- San Fransisco Rush
- Mario Kart 64
- Star Fox 64
- Perfect Dark
- Goldeneye 007
- Doom 64
- NFL QBC ’99
- Pokemon Snap
- Rogue Squadron
- Resident Evil 2
- Banjo-Kazooie
- Donkey Kong 64
- Jet Force Gemini
- WCW vs. NWO: World Tour
- WCW/NWO Revenge
- WWE Wrestlemania 2000
- WWE: No Mercy
- Duke Nukem: Zero Hour
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
- Turok 2: Seeds of Evill
- plus a Rumble and Expansion Pak, plus a few Memory Cards
Next, I waited outside my local Target at 2:30 am to pick up my Gamecube on November 18th, 2001. Surprisingly enough, I was the first one there! The second person didn’t show up until 5 am. Anyway, I got a sheet with seven games at launch (Luigi’s Mansion, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Rogue Squadron 2, Madden 2002, Super Monkey Ball, NHL Hitz 2002, and All-Star Baseball 2002). I was the first ticket holder, so I bought three games (Rogue Squadron 2, Luigi’s Mansion, and Wave Race: Blue Storm) along with an extra controller and Memory Card, all costing me $400! I have a llarge library of Cube games, about 330 titles. My favorites are:
- Madden 2006 (Madden in general)
- Tiger Woods 2005 (the best version)
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Mario Kart: Double Dash!
- Resident Evil 4
- Super Monkey Ball 2
- Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect
- Metroid Prime 1 and 2
-And many others…I have 8 black, 3 gray, and 1 white Memory Card for a total of 12. I have four Cube controllers, one set of bongo drums, two dance pads (one from Mario Mario Dance Mix and one from McGroovz Dance Bundle), three microphones (two from Mario Party 6 and 7 and one from Karoake Revolution Party), and a bunch of Player’s guides!
Lastly, the Wii! I went to good ole Target again, but people WERE ALREADY IN LINE AT 12:30 AM! Anyway, while my toes were frosted, I played the DS. I ended up being number 19, and bought a slew of games (9 games other than Wii Sports) and one extra Wiimote and nunchuk, which was around $750. These are the 13 Wii games I currently own, plus one Virtual Console game:
- Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Red Steel
- Madden NFL 2007
- Excite Truck
- Wii Sports
- Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
- Rayman Raving Rabbids
- Call of Duty 3
- GT Pro Series
- Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam
- Need For Speed: Carbon
- Elebits
- Far Cry: Vengeance
- Super Mario Bros. for the Virtual Console.
Here’s to 25 more years of gaming!!!
