Internet Channel Woes.

Do you like the Internet Channel? Opera’s a great browser isn’t it? with things like Widgets, download manager with bittorrent support, tabbed browsing, session manager, all those goodies- Oh wait, the Trial version of the Internet Channel doesn’t feature any of these now does it? You may think this is only because it’s the trial version, or Opera is being plain lazy.

Apparently, that is not the case. Chris Kohler from Game|Life recently spoke with Opera reps, he asked them what to expect in the final version of the Internet Channel, and to his surprise, they didn’t know. Not because they wouldn’t love to stuff the browser with all the goods, but because it’s up to Nintendo what to add and what not.

Whatever the case, I hope the browser supports tabbed browsing in its final version. I find myself (like many of you probably) so used to it that its kinda annoying to be without it.

Since Wii is the first console I’ve every owned it’s been really disappointing the way Nintendo has handled the online portion. Even though it’s basically GameCube 2.0 they’re still charging AU$100 per game and up to $15 for VC titles. I’m considering trading in my Wii when the PS3 gets some good titles because apart from Zelda and WiiSports there are ZERO interesting games being released in Australia, we won’t even get Trauma Center until March!

I tired of people calling the Wii a Gamecube Ver2.0, cause thats hardly what it is. If you wanna talk graphics-wise, yes perhaps the Wii only double or triples its hardware power compared to a ‘cube.

All systems have a slow start, were lucky the Wii had a real quality title avaible on launch, and if you really want an online experience you should consider the Xbox360 instead of a PS3.

I know don’t know jack of Aussie prices, but it wouldn’t surprise me if PS3 titles were more expensive than Wii titles in your region, so I fail to see what you are complaining about.

Technically, Wii is about 3 times the power of GameCube so it’d be more precise is called GameCube v3.0 or as the latest Wii firmware suggests v3.1E or so.

Anyway, I already predicted that they should give the Wii Browser as many useful features as possible just so it’d be considered up-to-date with modern internet browsers of today. Features including RSS feed, Java runtime support, plugins supports (may not be necessary). They should go in detail as to where we could customize our browser to view our bookmarks as small icons, text, etc. Skins/Visual Styles support for, not only, the Internet Channel but the rest of the Wii Menu as well. It’d be a complete package. :D /
