Elebits metamorphosizes for Europe January 8, 2007

eledees.thumbnail Elebits metamorphosizes for EuropeLooks like they feel the need to change things for the people of Europe…….Why?

Konami’s Wii launch window title Elebits is headed for Europe in the spring, but Europeans following its release in Japan and North America might not recognize it when it gets there.

The title is now apparently “Eledees”, and it’s slated to hit Europe this spring. Konami seems to be changing more than the name; the Elebit cookies, which you could break against the floor to woo Elebits out of hiding for a limited time, is apparently now a canister of “love gas”.

Elebits, despite taking a TGS best-in-show award, did relatively poorly in its home country, though anecdotally, sales are picking up here now that 2006 has come and gone. Time and sales figures will tell whether it becomes a memorable part of Wii’s launch.

Check this out. Joystiq ran a post on the elebits renaming as well. It talks a bit about the renaming of the game.

I have the game, its pretty good, but lacking in story, you can see this game was in a sense meant for younger audiences.

The gameplay is pretty darn awesome, only minor problem are the slowdowns here and there, they steal the beauty of this game.
  • The reason Konami is changing the name of the game is because 'bit' is a derogatory slang in Britain.

Kind of like when the name of the Austin Powers movie, The Spy Who Shagged me was changed because 'shag' is pretty much the equivalent of the F bomb over there.
