243944002 13a578879b m Nintendo Wii: Wii For $200? More Colors?Upon looking for a Wii at a regional Toys-R-Us store (which has been a constant effort), we happened by a very friendly, very chatty undisclosed manager. After talking to him a bit, the manager revealed a few things in light of the Wii consumer frenzy. He would go on to state that if they [the customers] would “just listen,” they could get a “better system” in a few months.

A “better system?” As he would soon explain, Nintendo will be “relaunching” the Wii console sometime before or at the beginning of Spring 2007. The launch, which is said to see many different colors for the Wii system (as seen at E3), will also be accompanied by a hefty price drop from $250 to $200. For those that believe such a drop would be too radical, keep in mind Miyamoto’s own statements that the original plan was to develop a system under $100. Also note that it is undetermined if the “better system” statement includes technical upgrades to the Wii, as recent rumors have suggested.

new colours for wii's will come out nintendo has already said that and a price drop in the next few months could be possible but i doubt nintendo would upgrade the wii and lower the price AFTER upgrading it and also i dont think they will upgrade it because i dont think nintendo would leave the people who already own the wii before this so called "better wii" out in the cold (if you get what i mean)
  • Not Believing It
They've already said a DVD playing Wii would be released in Japan sometime in '07 but that it would not see a release in the States. I figure that will eventually change but maybe in 2008. They wouldn't be able to make a Wii that had anything different under its hood for gaming as then it wouldn't be a Wii. It would be extremely costly to upgrade and play the "old" games and then would the new games be able to be played on an old Wii? See why it won't happen?

I wouldn't worry about it, the changes they could include aren't deal breakers. Most if not all have a DVD player, PS2, etc. Get the Wii when you can and enjoy the games.

    PS: Get Gunstar Heroes.

what in gods name does a manager of toys-r-us know about what nintendo plans on doing.
It's just an idiot that read something about a possible price drop on the net and same for the colors and he tought he knew how it's gonna go now.
Weird that it got to the net so widely spread ... I'm from Belgium, maybe i'm wrong about toys-r-us, maybe they do know shit :)
  • eh
yeah because managers at toys-r-us know EVERYTHING.

    BULL!!!
So I wait 4 hours in the cold for a Wii day 1, then a few months later Nintendo goes "hey guys, looky! now you can get a wii in different colors and it's cheaper!" NO!
New colors, whatever! But a price drop! BULL CRAP!!! Don't even get me started on hardware upgrades! Like, mabey including a HD, but 1st wave Wii owners had better be able to buy HDs seperately! And if it DOES come with a HD, they better either raise the price, or give all the people WITH the 1st Wiis HDs for FREE!
  • I seriously doubt that the new wii will be graphically superior or anything like that. Think about the possible consumer backlash. Now new colors or a price drop sound just like something nintendo would do.

I would be pissed if I got my Wii for Christmas, then a few months later a better more graphically superior wii came out. That wouldn't make since to me.
