DS wordpress plugin released! December 30, 2006

I’ve released the DS plugin for wordpress (and activated it here on my own wordpress blog). I hope you all like it. A big thank you to the original Nintendo Wii plugin team who made me want to do this and provided us with great source code of their plugin! A download linky + info can be found here;

http://wordpress.scorpei.com/

Screenshot made with FF

To see it in action go to Scorpei’s blog using your DS or using Firefox using the user agent switcher. A small image for those who do not have OperaDS (and don’t want to hassle around looking it up via FireFox’s user-agent switcher);

If you install both the original Wii plugin and this DS plugin your wordpress blog will show up correctly on both the DS and the Nintendo Wii! The theme for the DS was made so it fits fully on the top screen. That way you can use the “direct input” mode (pressing R when in overview mode with the top screen zoomed) to scroll easily without having to search for your information. More information on the page above.

If you don’t have a Nintendo DS you can still check out if the plugin was installed correctly. Firstly download Firefox. Then install the user agent switcher. Restart Firefox after installing the addon then go to “extra-user agent switcher-options-option”. Then to user agents in the left menu and press the add button. Now add a user agent (name/description doesn’t matter, I choose OperaDS) and fill in the “user agent” line with this; Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Nitro) Opera 8.50 [en]. Finish adding it and then select it in the “extra-user agent switcher-…” menu. Then go to your (or mine to test if the settings are correct) blog and see the magic ;) .

*UPDATE*:

Already at update 2 :) ? I’ve added a second skin for you to choose from. If the first skin wasn’t totally to your liking you can try out this new one. If you decide to make your own skin, please let me know.

Howto; make your own Nintendo GameCube/Wii SD adapter December 29, 2006

I’m not sure how, but somehow this wasn’t noticed here ;) . Here is a guide on how to make your own Nintendo GameCube/Wii SD memory card adapter. As currently homebrew boots on the Wii via the AR method, a SD adapter is something you’ll defenetly need.

DS Wordpress Plugin

Filed under: Exclusive, News, Nintendo DS/DSi, Tips, Tricks, and Secrets — hey_suburbia @ 11:17 am

337541453 90da08d21c DS Wordpress Plugin

Hot off the heals of the Wii Wordpress Plugin, developer “Scorpei” has created one that works with the browser on the Nintendo DS.

“After seeing the great work done by David Harper on the Wordpress Nintendo Wii plugin, I felt like making something similar for the Nintendo DS. I’ve made modifications to their checker and now it nicely detects a Nintendo DS connecting! If you view my blog via the Opera DS browser now you’ll get a different template then with other browsers (though that template is currently also based on the Nintendo Wii edition original and therefor highly unoptimized).”

The plugin now works so that it will detect whether you’re browsing from a PC, Wii, or DS and format the page accordingly. If you go to Scorpei’s site on a Wii or DS, you’ll be able to see it in action:

http://blog.scorpei.com/

“I plan on releasing what I’ve made somewhere tonight so everyone can use it (as said it is all still very unoptimized). Of course my thanks go out to David and the full winksite team, and I hope they will make a great template using my modified checker!”

Line Rider for the Wii browser December 28, 2006

line rider wii

UPDATE: I GOT AN EMAIL FROM THE COMPANY MAKING LINE RIDER FOR THE WII AND DS AND ASKED ME IF I COULD TAKE THIS DOWN, SO I DID.  SORRY!

WiiNintendo’s, WiiFii.net, just got the latest of version of Line Rider (soon to appear on the Wii and DS) to be playable in the Wii browser.

All buttons, graphics and text have been enlarged. The frame rate has also been optimized to run on the Wii Opera browser, even still, you’ll only get 10 to 11 frames per second while riding a line and 25-26 FPS when you’re in the air.

Line Rider has also been downgraded to Flash 7, the official version (and all other hacks) are Flash 8, which won’t play in the Wii browser.

Enjoy!

One enterprising blogger [WiiNintendo's hey_suburbia] has already launched an official six-week Wii fitness experiment. He’ll track his body fat and resting heart rate as he builds daily 30-minute Wii workouts into his routine.”

Here’s a website that will allow you to add people using your Wii friend code. It plots your Wii on a map, so you can find Wii friends in your area, or anywhere in the world. Its a great way to get a ton of Wii friends on your list really fast!

I was also surprised to see the people with Wii’s so close to me.

WordPress Wii Edition Plugin

Here is WiiNintendo.net viewed on the Wii Opera browser. The text is un-readable (without zooming) and you can only see one article (actually only 1/4 of an article). Also, since my site is usually graphically and video heavy the Wii browser cannot bookmark it.

This is the same page of WiiNintendo.net viewed on the Wii Opera browser. This time I activated the Wii Plugin (Which I have personally dubbed “Wiipress”). I can now view 9 articles, the text is easily readable from a distance away, it can be easily bookmarked, and it takes on the css and images used by the Wii Shopping channel. The great thing is that it only displays this way when viewed on the Wii.

335256916 788a213f3a WordPress Wii Edition Plugin
Here is an article after you click on it from the main page. The images, comments, links and formatting all fit the TV screen GREAT.

About The Wordpress Wii Edition Plugin:
The WordPress Wii Edition Plugin is a plugin that automatically renders an optimized version of your blog when visitors come to your blog on a Nintendo Wii running the Opera browser. Wii’s are automatically detected, there is no configuration needed. The theme used by the plugin is based on the colors of the Wii interface and uses the “Wii font at sizes that provide for easy reading on TV screens. This plugin was inspired by Alex King’s Mobile Plugin.

Why is this plugin useful?
Webpages on the Wii are hard to view on default zoom and on many pages (designed wider then 800 pixels) you will have to scroll from side to side. In addition, font sizes that work on a computer screen don’t render well on a TV screen. As such we put together this plugin to make our favorite blogs a bit easier to read.

Wiimote d-pad works in Javascript or Flash games!

medium flash logo m.2 Wiimote d pad works in Javascript or Flash games!

The browser’s native resolution appears to be 800×500 (SuperVGA minus 100 pixels for the menu bar) at 4:3 and 1024×500 at 16:9 but there is also the “Opera for handheld” mode if you hit 2 (similar to the F11 functionality in the desktop version) which strangely doesn’t report itself as “handheld” unlike the desktop version; maybe the Opera developers could shed some light into this and tell us how to handle this nice feature? Anyway, you can also zoom (×2) a page if you think the fonts are too small to read. Yet again, if you own a small television that might still be not enough.

Javascript support is also excellent, everything runs smoothly and it has no problems at all with libraries such as jQuery4 (even Thickbox5 works; you can’t exit it, but that should be fairly easy to fix). What’s more exciting though is that it is possible to use the Wiimote’s keys in Javascript or Flash games! Here follows a key -> unicode table of the Wii Remote’s keys. Have in mind that some of those keys are reserved though.
