All-Star Pitcher Curt Schilling Forming Game Studio
Curt Schilling and involvement from McFarland and Salvatore are forming a studio. ÂÂ
In a bit of the old “he said, she said,” Gamasutra is reporting via uncredited “online reports” that Curt Schilling, the Red Sox ace and avid Everquest II player, is starting up a new videogame company based in Boston called Green Monster Games.Poking around a bit, 1UP discovered the greenmonstergames.com domain name was originally registered back in 2000 and doesn’t appear to be owned by anyone involved in Green Monster Games, suggesting the venture may not be very far along yet.
Schilling isn’t alone for the ride, either. The Major League pitcher has assembled his own team of players — Todd McFarlane, creator of SPAWN, and R.A. Salvatore, sci-fi and fantasy novelist.
The name of the company, Green Monster Games, is without a doubt an homage to the Green Monster, a large wall at Fenway Park — where the Red Sox play, for the oblivious — that’s notorious for robbing players of what would be homeruns in many other Major League parks.
According to job listings placed on various websites (i.e. Gamasutra, obviously), McFarlane will be serving as the lead artist on their first game, with Salvatore overseeing as creative director. There’s no word on what the first game might be from Green Monster Games, but one thing is sure — given Schilling’s love of fantasy games and Salvatore’s involvement, that’s already a pretty big hint.
