Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol Impressions

I can’t wait for Park Patrol, the second Chibi-Robo title, due out for the DS next year.

Leave it to Nintendo to find a way to turn menial odd jobs into addictive gameplay.

As Chibi-Robo your job is to restore the local park to its former glory days. Watering flowers, dancing and building playgrounds are just a few of the many tasks players will be balancing while keeping a sharp eye on Chibi-Robo’s battery power. If your battery happens to be running low on juice, just plug yourself into the nearest outlet for a full charge. One of the many new features in the title is a handy red arrow that serves as your guide to lead you to the next goal.

Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol does a great job of maintaining the graphical style of its GameCube predecessor. The outdoor environments that were playable at E3 were composed of bright primary colors and very simple character designs. Chibi-Robo maintains his metallic chrome sheen and is nicely animated. Meanwhile the enemy characters simply look like black spheres with legs and jack-o-lantern inspired white faces. However, their effortless designs fit perfectly among the minimalist art style.

Altogether, Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol is looking to be a faithful follow-up to its GameCube forerunner.
