Cryptic Studios Planning MMO’s for Next-Gen Consoles
They have several unannounced games in development, hopefully at least one for the Wii. Wii’ll see what happens.
For a while now, twin comic-inspired MMORPG titles City of Heroes and City of Villains have been letting players dress up in brightly-colored skin-tight suits safely and discretely. With online crime-fighting and evil scheming now in place, developer Cryptic Studios is starting on new projects — with both the PC and next-generation consoles in mind.
While Cryptic is withholding details for now, the studio has confirmed that it has multiple projects in the works. Interestingly, at least one position — Lead Designer — calls for interest in history and mythology. Jack Emmert, Creative Director at Cryptic, told IGN that this means “both ancient and modern” history and mythology — and that the new games are not set in Ancient Greece or Rome.
Employee-owned Cryptic Studios is located in Los Gatos, California. Its first title, City of Heroes, launched in 2004. City of Heroes and City of Villains together are bringing in more than $30 million a year.
