AMD Buys ATI
This will NOT affect the chips associated with the Nintendo Wii in any way, said the company.ÂÂ
Yesterday, computer chip maker Advanced Micro Devices completed its acquisition of famed graphics card supplier ATI Technologies Inc.
AMD completed the deal with ATI for $5.4 billion, with both companies agreeing to the acquisition. Before it can be fully finalized, the deal must be approved by a majority of ATI shareholders.
AMD says that it does not plan anything drastically different for ATI, saying that they will still provide graphics and multimedia chips and cards much like they have for the past years. AMD will, however, be working closely with ATI to provide more integrated graphics with AMD chips.
ATI has been working with Nintendo to provide Wii’s Graphics Processing Unit.
