I don’t put a lot of stock in the best brand competition. When Coca-Cola places higher than Nintendo, the list obviously has no bearing on video game console performance.

Unless we can agree that we’d all rush to buy a video game machine sponsored by Coke. Cola-covision?

Hey, I don’t see a problem with people thinking that Sony is the best brand out there. Many of the products they make are great and last long time. Most people think of Sony as a reliable brand and I still think that as well. They aren’t aware of flawed PSP units and broken PS2s because the majority of Sony’s products aren’t video games. And regardless if PS3 is a shoddy product the masses are still going to see it as a superior product (not that they can afford it). Sony has earned its reputation over it’s 50 years of existence and I respect that. I say Sony has had a good run but in five years they probably won’t be number one anymore.

As far as sony being voted best brand. Doesn’t really mean so much for the next console war. SONY is a major electronics company. A large portion of the people that voted for them probably had alot more than the playstation in mind, and definately more than the PSP. For Nintendo to make it, it would have to be completely on videogames. It was a vote for a favorite brand, not favorite videogames. Overall I’m not surprised they made it as they have good market penetration in just about every consumer electronics market. I’m kind of surprised Microsoft was a few lower.

Ryan Heath responds: Immediately after seeing the poll, I came to the same conclusion as most of you. Sony is a big electronics brand that has been around for over 50 years making lots of widely used electronics that are NOT video game related. My friends and family, who don’t play video games, consider Sony’s electronics to be high quality stuff. Add that to Sony’s marketing department that make their products look really sleek and sexy, and you’ve got the reason behind the poll results.
