Gamers are looking forward to the Wii in Europe, due to its innovation and low price point, among other things.

Pretty much everyone in Japan loves Wii, according to a recent poll.

Otona Fami, a member of the Famitsu publication family, recent surveyed developers, gamers, and retailers on which next-generation console they were most looking forward to, and Wii won every category.

Gamers are interested in PS3, but most said that they would wait until a significant price drop before buying the system, and most said a Wii, which will cost much less, would be their first pick-up. 73.6 percent of gamers said they would buy a Wii first, while only 16.7 wanted a PS3 above all else. The remaining 9.7 percent said they weren’t excited about either one.

Among retailers, Wii’s stock slipped a little lower, posting a 65.9 percent showing. Apparently, retailers are a negative bunch, as the “neither category beat the PS3 category at 18.8, while Sony’s system only garnered 15.3 percent of the vote.

Game developers were more positive, giving Wii a 69.7 percent endorsement, with PS3 following at 27.3. Only 3 percent of respondents weren’t excited about either console. In addition, developers said that some established gamers would prefer traditional controls, but while the PlayStation brand has a strong resonance with consumers, they are more interested in Wii for development’s sake.
