Konami gets “Guitar Revolution” July 10, 2006
Konami grabbed the rights to an unconfirmed Guitar game. They have the patent, so let’s see if they use it.ÂÂ
Should Red Octane, makers of the Guitar Hero games, be concerned that last week Konami patented (check here or if the link expires use Guitar Revolution as your search terms) Guitar Revolution? The success of Red Octane’s Guitar Hero games likely influenced Konami to snag a patent for Guitar Revolution.In-office speculation points to Guitar Revolution being some kind of console version of the arcade series Guitar Freaks. Freaks uses three buttons on its controller, where Guitar Hero uses five — making the latter a bit more complicated than the arcade title.
Historically, Konami’s patents have shown hands before they were ready to play them (hello, DDR Supernova) whether this latest patent will lead to a guitar-driven game for home consoles remains to be seen.
As of press time, Konami has yet to respond for comment, we’ll update here when they do.
