Microtransactions Confirmed at Game Industry
Reggie commented it in Game Informer. Now, Games Industry had a Reggie talk about microtransactions.
Comments from Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime reported by Games Industry confirm that Nintendo’s Wii will be ready to enter the exciting world of microtransactions. How publishers choose to utilize the technology is up to them, according to Fils-Aime.”If you’ve gotten to a particular part in a game, we could push content out to you, so you get to battle a new boss. Maybe you get a new artifact; maybe you get a new weapon,” Fils-Aime said.
Is this latest confirmation Nintendo’s attempt to keep up with Sony and Microsoft in the realm of microtransactions (where Microsoft is already cementing a foothold and arguably some dangerous pricing decisions, and we we’re still waiting to see how Sony handles microtransactions) or will microtransactions be a firm part of Nintendo’s WiiConnect24 operations. Microtransactions are more and more turning into blood in the water, the sharks that make up the big three are definitely circling.
