castlevania nes draculaWe probably won’t see Castlevania the film till 2008 the earliest, but will it be a blockbuster or another Bloodrayne…

Nobody really asked for a Castlevania movie, yet Paul W.S. Anderson, the same genius behind the Resident Evil adaptations, decided Konami’s whip-centric franchise was ready for the big screen. Bloody Disgusting attended a set visit for Anderson’s currently filming Resident Evil: Extinction, and managed to pry details on a few upcoming movies, too.Anderson won’t shoot Castlevania until he’s finished with his Deathrace 3000 remake, which means it’s several years off before the Belmont clan becomes a silver screen family. Let’s hope Anderson’s attempt at visualizing Transylvania is better executed than Uwe Boll’s in BloodRayne, but don’t hold your breath.

“It will integrate Dracula’s origin story with the story of the Belmonts,” said producer Jeremy Bolt to the website. “[There are] a fair amount of references [to the original NES games]. [This will be] a whole new spin to Castlevania. The whip is still in it.”

At least it still sounds like a Castlevania game, but we’re not sure what’s going through Bolt’s head when he confirms Dimension Films is already preparing a follow-up to DOA: Dead or Alive. The trailers released so far have been a laughing stock, but mostly-naked chicks on film appears to be enough for a greenlit sequel in Hollywood.

At this point, they should just go ahead and adapt Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball. At least you know what you’re getting into with that one.
