Blood Bowl June 27, 2006

blood bowlAnother fantasy football game. My favorite sport and video games gets another football game. Let’s see if it comes for the Wii or not.

Electronic Arts might have the market cornered on NFL-licensed football games, but that doesn’t mean someone else can’t approach the genre from a different angle. Midway’s done exactly that with the Blitz series, and Games Workshop is working with UK developer Cyanide to bring their Warhammer-influenced Blood Bowl to life.

Cyanide’s an unknown name to you for a good reason The developer’s best known for the Cycling Manager series, but had been linked to collaborating on a fantasy football game entitled, Chaos League. The game hadn’t been picked up by a publisher, however, and the work on Chaos League appears to have been scrapped in favor of Blood Bowl.

Games Workshop and Cyanide haven’t announced publisher and release details yet, let alone anything on the gameplay, but the table top board game’s description is telling. “Dirty tricks, bribing the referee and even pitch invasions by fans are all part of this colourful, violent and often humorous fantasy sports game.”

Sounds delicious.
