Nintendo of France Saying “More Launch Titles”

Nintendo of France’s Mathieu Minel spoke to ITRGames recently in an exclusive interview and he spoke about the following regarding the Wii (translated from French):

“There will be many games launching with the Wii, in particular the Sports range with Tennis, Golf and Baseball. There will be also a new episode of the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. And many other games, coming from third parties like Atari, Buena Vista, Eidos, Konami, Midway and Namco (as examples)…Wii positions like “my first video game console (note: it is funny to remember that SONY had a range “My first SONY)…we did not speak about Online on Wii at the time of the (E3) conference. It was really the lever which was the high-speed motorboat. Online, we had spoken about it one year ago. Wii will take again the principle and the same precepts which exist on Nintendo DS.

According to this interview it seems that there will be more launch titles than the current number of twenty titles that are known to be available at Wii’s launch. The first is the mention of Namco, a third-party that has eight Wii titles in development and it is currently unknown what title will be available (although it seems likely that One Piece or Gundam might be that launch game).

Eidos is another third-party that was confirmed to be developing one game on the Wii and now it seems they are planning a launch title (possibly Tomb Raider?). BVG was also mentioned and they have two Disney titles in the works, with at least one for launch. Atari was mentioned and it seems highly likely that Dragon Ball Z is a launch title especially with recent reports that suggested it was coming out this fall. This is great news for Wii, the more the merrier.
