Are Controllers the Next Wave?
I agree with Patrick Curry’s comments. I really think that motion-sensing will make old controllers obselete. Bill Gates, Master of all that is Microsoft, doesn’t care about motion sensitive controllers. Why would he? His company’s entrance into motion tech in 1998 via the SideWinder Freestyle Pro failed miserably. The PC-only peripheral was widely disdained, commonly disregarded, and quickly discarded. Currently, Microsoft has no motion sensitive controllers in production.
Recently, in an interview with MTV he said, “There’s room for innovation here, but moving that controller around  it’s something that’s not mainstream for most games… there’s a lot to be learned about these controllers. This left us wondering could this upcoming motion sensitive trend suffer the same fate? Do gamers want to put their whole body into play? What will it take for the trend to move beyond being a gimmick? Will the inclusion of motion sensing technology in Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PS3 controllers unlock a new dimension of gaming, or are gamers being treated to a next-generation Power Glove?
