Hochiminh Rant Day 16 May 19, 2006

There was a HECK of a lot of news abound regarding the Nintendo Wii, and for certain, the Wii’s future looks certainly BRIGHT!

Because of the recent pricing of PS3, rumors are swirling that the Nintendo Wii could pull out the upset in the next-gen war, but relatively speaking, that remains to be seen.  According to a couple of articles I’ve browsed through today, it looks like power is shifting away from Sony and into the hands of the other two platforms.  Here is what I proclaim may or may not happen:

Sony’s PS3: With a $600 price tag, I don’t think that will help to promote the system.  In an article I posted in the News section today, they mentioned the fact that Sony won’t pull down the price of the PS3 quickly, plus publishers will begin to stop and think twice and turn against Sony.  Production of PS3 games will be expensive, and if there is no people to buy them on the other side, losses will sure follow.  The article even says that the people who DO buy PS3 will only want it for the Bluray technology.  Furthermore, they won’t have a lot of launch titles, and most of their big games probably won’t come out till 2007.

Microsoft XBox 360: They boosted huge over last years lackluster 360 debut.  It finally seems that they will be making some excellent games, but most may not be out till 2007.  But still, I see more people buying the 360, at least next year, than the PS3.  Plus it is scheduled to be reduced to a $300 price tag for the whole bundle this fall.

Nintendo Wii: Surprisingly, I think the Wii will beat out the 360 and PS3 in sales, at least for fall of 2006.  I could be wrong, but 16 launch titles is INCREDIBLE, spanning several genres of gameplay, all utilizing different techniques from the remote.  The PS3 won’t have many launch titles, and most of Microsoft’s big titles won’t be released till ‘07, so this year could be a BIG year, and a BIG year we will see!
