My first post, I may as well let out one of the fears I have…
Hey everyone,
After reading all of the latest sneak previews of Wii games, and the hands on impressions of those who are reporting them, there’s something that has been troubling me.
All of these new games are said to have this powerglove-esque incorporation of the controller where you’re swinging a “tennis racket”, or even the premise of having to make a snapping motion in the Wii version of Madden to hike the ball, and having to make throwing motions to complete plays.
What has me worried is my wondering how long the appeal of this will really last.
I have not even touched a Wii controller or game yet, like most of the population, and I’m already feeling like having to action out every aspect of a game may start to get old. Again, I look back to the Powerglove. Sure, this may be like apples and oranges, being how much technology has improved, but I remember playing Super Glove Ball with my Powerglove, and while at first I was floored at how amazing it was to be able to control the game using my own hand and motions… after about 15 minutes of play, I was more than ready to use a regular controller again.
I do understand that most games will probably give the gamer the option to use a traditional gamecube style controller to play games, but I still have to wonder if this new controller will really have a lasting appeal before the general public wants to go back to something a little less… involved.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of hope for the Wii, and I can not wait to play one, but this is just a feeling I can’t shake.
